The role of risk factors in aging cannot be understated; however, positive psychological resources are associated with numerous favorable functional and health outcomes in aging. Furthermore, the associations between these positive or protective factors and aging outcomes can persist in the context of negative variables. Here, we will discuss the nuanced relationships between risk and protective factors with health outcomes in aging, including cognition.
