Anelyssa D’Abreu, MD, is a neurologist who specializes in geriatric neurology and has extensive experience caring for elderly patients with neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy body dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and dementia. Originally from Brazil, D’Abreu attended medical school in Sao Paulo at the University of Campinas (Unicamp). She came to the U.S. to complete her residency training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. D’Abreu then pursued a fellowship in geriatric neurology at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Her primary research interest is the study of inequities in healthcare delivery in patients with Alzheimer’s disease and Related Dementia, and to identify factors that may negatively affect clinical trial participation in historically marginalized populations. She is currently involved as the principal investigator (PI) or co-PI in multiple clinical trials in Alzheimer’s disease and Related Dementia at the University of Virginia, as well as multiple other clinical studies.
